DID YOU KNOW
SPRAINS:
- A sprain occurs to a ligament
- A sprain is usually a result of the joint being forced outside its usual range of motion
- Ligament sprains can range from mild (tearing just a few fibres) to severe (complete rupture of the ligament, leading to joint instability).
- Sprains are commonly seen in both contact and non-contact sport.
VS
STRAINS:
- A strain occurs to a muscle
- A strain occurs when damage is caused to muscle fibres due to extensive mechanical stress
- Strains are common in non-contact sports as they are usually the result of a powerful eccentric contraction or over stretching movement
- Insufficient warmup, fatigue, reduce mobility and muscle imbalance are just a few risk factors of muscle strains.
